The Department of Pulmonary Disease III of Shenzhen Third People'ss Hospital is the department serves as the leadership position for several prominent organizations: the Severe Tuberculosis Committee of the Chinese Medical Association's Tuberculosis Branch, the Tuberculosis Committee of the Chinese Research Hospital Association, the Tuberculosis Committee of the Shenzhen Medical Doctor Association. It is also recognized as an Enteral Nutrition Demonstration Ward by the Nutrition Committee of the Chinese Medical Association. In 2019, it was designated as a Guangdong Provincial High-level Clinical Key Specialty. The department comprises a team of over 40 professionals, with 25% holding senior or higher-level titles and 50% holding intermediate-level titles.

The Department of Pulmonary Disease III has accumulated extensive clinical experience in managing severe tuberculosis, tuberculosis with comorbidities, tuberculosis in immunocompromised patients, tuberculous destroyed lung, drug-resistant tuberculosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchial asthma, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), sepsis, and other critical respiratory conditions. Its scope of practice also encompasses the diagnosis and treatment of subspecialties including extrapulmonary tuberculosis, pediatric tuberculosis, tuberculosis in pregnant women, and tuberculosis-related infertility. Over 30% of inpatients originate from regions outside Shenzhen, with the farthest patients traveling from areas such as Xinjiang and Qinghai.
Furthermore, the department boasts a highly qualified nursing team possessing specialized certifications in critical care, clinical nutrition, tuberculosis care, respiratory therapy, and Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) placement. They provide exceptional nursing expertise in areas such as artificial airway management, mechanical ventilation care, nutritional management, and respiratory rehabilitation.

The Department of Pulmonary Disease III is responsible for the clinical management, scientific research (including projects funded by the National Key Technologies R&D Programs during the 11th, 12th, 13th, and 14th Five-Year Plan periods, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and various provincial and municipal research grants), and teaching related to tuberculosis. It has successfully organized numerous national, provincial, and municipal continuing medical education programs.

In recent years, the department has taken the lead in formulating key expert consensus documents, including the "Expert Consensus on the Construction and Management of Intensive Care Units for Severe Tuberculosis," the "Expert Consensus on Nutritional Therapy for Tuberculosis," and the "Guidelines for Airway Management in Tuberculosis Patients Undergoing Invasive Mechanical Ventilation." Additionally, it also spearheaded the development of several national group standards, such as the “Diagnosis of Tuberculosis in Children” and the “Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Maternal-Fetal Transmission of Tuberculosis.”
