  1.Core Information

  Since its establishment in 1985, the Department of Stomatology has developed into a cutting-edge medical department that integrates medical services, teaching, and research, keeping up with the hospital's progress toward creating a first-class, internationally recognized, high-level comprehensive hospital. With graduates from famous medical institutions like Peking University, Sichuan University, Wuhan University, Sun Yat-sen University, Jinan University, and Guangzhou Medical University, the department has assembled an exceptional medical staff thus far. The department has a team of 24 professionals, including 1 Consultants, 4 Associate Consultants, 3 Attending Physicians, and 8 specialized nurses. Among them, 12 staff hold a master’s degree or above.

  2.Clinical Services

  Endodontics

  Diseases:Dental caries, non-carious diseases (dental trauma, tooth discoloration), pulp diseases, periapical diseases

  Treatment:Dental caries filling, resin aesthetic restoration, pulp capping, pulpotomy, root canal therapy, apicoectomy

  Oral mucosal diseases

  Diseases:Recurrent aphthous ulcers, oral lichen planus, oral leukoplakia, oral candidiasis, oral manifestations of infectious diseases.

  Treatment:Local symptomatic treatment, medical therapy for mucosal diseases, pathological biopsy, and resection of minor mucosal lesions.

  Periodontics

  Diseases:Gingival diseases and periodontal diseases (gingival redness and swelling, gingival bleeding, gingival recession, tooth mobility, halitosis).

  Treatment:Personalized treatment plans are designed according to the specific conditions of each patient. Sequential treatment includes supragingival scaling, subgingival scaling, root planing, and periodontal surgery.

  Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery & Oral Implantology

  Diseases:Supernumerary teeth, impacted teeth, residual roots and crowns, tooth loss, maxillofacial trauma, maxillofacial tumors, alveolar bone abnormalities, small maxillofacial masses

  Treatment:Minimally invasive tooth extraction, dental implantation (including dental implantation after maxillary sinus elevation or bone grafting), alveoloplasty, labial frenectomy, and resection of small maxillofacial tumors.

  Prosthodontics

  Diseases:Single-tooth to full-mouth loss, tetracycline-stained teeth, dental fluorosis, bruxism.

  Treatment: PFM crown, all-ceramic crown, porcelain veneer, removable denture, precision attachment, occlusal splint.

  Orthodontics

  Diseases:Various malocclusions in children, adolescents and adults(including irregular dentition, ectopic eruption, insufficient eruption, impacted teeth, dental crowding, diastemata, crossbite, open bite, overjet, overbite, maxillary protrusion, mandibular retrusion and bimaxillary protrusion).

  Treatment: Early orthodontic treatment in children, occlusal guidance, and comprehensive orthodontic treatment of malocclusion in adolescents and adults.

  Pediatric Dentistry

  Diseases:Caries of primary and permanent teeth, pulpitis and periapical periodontitis, dental trauma, supernumerary teeth, abnormal attachment of labial and lingual frenum, malocclusion in children.

  Treatment:Comprehensive diagnosis, treatment and prevention of common oral diseases in children and adolescents, including topical fluoride application, pit and fissure sealing, resin restoration of dental caries, vital pulp therapy, root canal therapy, prefabricated crown restoration and space maintenance; labial and lingual frenectomy; early orthodontic treatment, occlusal guidance, elimination of harmful oral habits and behavior management for pediatric malocclusion.

  The annual outpatient volume of our department reaches more than 30,000 visits, with extensive diagnostic and therapeutic experience. Our department covers all secondary specialties of stomatology and provides one-stop diagnosis and treatment services. Through close inter-specialty cooperation and multi-disciplinary consultation, we formulate accurate multi-dimensional diagnosis and treatment plans to help patients restore oral health.

  Equipped with advanced diagnostic and therapeutic equipment (root canal microscopes, periodontal treatment instruments, painless anesthesia syringes), the department significantly improves diagnostic accuracy and patient comfort, effectively ensuring the quality of treatment. Our highly educated team from renowned universities provides standardized, high-quality and efficient oral diagnostic and therapeutic services.

  4.Education & Research

  As the Second Affiliated Hospital of Southern University of Science and Technology, Department of Stomatology serves as a practical training base for the dental programs of several medical schools. For many years, it has been responsible for the teaching tasks of undergraduate dental internships. At the same time, our department also undertakes the teaching of basic theories of undergraduate stomatology. The quality and quantity of the department's teaching in stomatology have been highly praised and recognized multiple times by interns, the relevant internship schools, and the hospital.

  In terms of scientific research, our department focuses on implant guides, peri-implantitis, infiltrative resin restoration, performance of root canal sealers, and application of oral CBCT. Relevant achievements have been published in journals such as West China Journal of Stomatology, Journal of Guangzhou Medical University, and American Journal of Translational Research. Rooted in clinical practice, our scientific research is guided by patients' actual needs, and the achievements feed back into clinical work to provide patients with more scientific, cutting-edge and high-quality medical services. Meanwhile, the nursing team actively devotes itself to the nursing field, publishes related works, and holds one patent for oral endoscopes.
