  1.Core Information

  The Department of Pediatrics at Shenzhen Third People's Hospital was established in 2007 as a comprehensive discipline integrating medical care, teaching, scientific research, and preventive healthcare. It serves as the core diagnostic and treatment unit for pediatric infectious diseases in Shenzhen and surrounding regions. The department currently has 69 medical staff members, including 30 physicians (4 Consultants, 5 Associate Consultants, 20 Attending Physicians) and 39 nursing staff (1 chief nurse and 4 associate chief nurses). The inpatient ward comprises two floors, with 42 open beds in the general pediatrics ward and 15 open beds in the neonatal ward. Specialized outpatient clinics include pediatric health care, high-risk infant follow-up, pediatric allergic diseases, and pediatric growth and development clinics.

  2.Clinical Services

  • Pediatric Infectious Diseases: Undertaken the designated treatment of critically ill children during infectious disease outbreaks in Shenzhen, implemented comprehensive management of pediatric infectious diseases, and accumulated extensive experience in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention and control.

  • Pediatric Comprehensive Diagnosis and Health Management: Performing diagnostic services including pediatric bronchoscopy, allergen testing and desensitization therapy, perioperative management for liver and kidney transplantation, as well as growth and development assessment follow-ups.

  • Neonatal critical care: Maturely carry out technologies such as non-invasive ventilation (NIV), conventional mechanical ventilation (CMV), high-frequency mechanical ventilation (HFV), neonatal exchange transfusion, and neonatal umbilical artery and vein catheterization to treat very low birth weight infants, extremely premature infants  and congenital tuberculosis.

  3.Special Features & Advantages

  • The institution demonstrates outstanding infectious disease treatment capabilities, having repeatedly served as the designated facility for critical pediatric cases during outbreaks of measles, hand-foot-and-mouth disease, influenza, and other infectious diseases in Shenzhen. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it successfully completed related treatment tasks, accumulating extensive experience in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of pediatric infectious diseases. This has provided robust support for regional pediatric infectious disease control.

  • The neonatal critical care level ranks among the top in the region, equipped with comprehensive modern emergency and monitoring devices, and has mastered multiple core rescue techniques. The department has established a mature refined monitoring and treatment protocol for preterm infants, implemented developmental care models, and successfully treated numerous cases of extremely low birth weight infants and very preterm infants, significantly improving the survival rate and quality of life of preterm infants.

  4.Education & Research

  As a pediatric specialized training base for standardized residency training in Shenzhen, it undertakes theoretical teaching, clinical rotations, and residency rotation training for undergraduate students from multiple institutions, while regularly organizing academic exchange activities to enhance professional competencies among healthcare professionals and trainees.

  In recent years, the department has published over 50 papers in domestic and international journals and undertaken more than 10 provincial and municipal-level research projects. It has been granted 7 invention patents, 46 utility model patents, 8 software copyrights, and 1 design patent. The department has led the drafting of 1 group standard, served as chief editor for 4 books, and contributed to 3 others. Additionally, it has overseen more than 20 continuing education programs at national, provincial, and municipal levels.
