  1.Core Information

  The Ophthalmology Department of Shenzhen Third People's Hospital is a key clinical specialty that integrates clinical service, medical education, and scientific research. Equipped with internationally advanced diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, the department has established an integrated care model encompassing precision diagnosis, minimally invasive surgery, and accelerated postoperative recovery. In particular, it has set a high-level benchmark for ophthalmology care within the region in the management of infectious eye diseases. The department is staffed by a dedicated team of 36 professionals, including 1 consultant, 5 associate Consultants, 4 attending physicians, 3 ophthalmic technician, and 23 specialized nurses.

  2.Clinical Services

  • Corneal and Ocular Surface Diseases: Comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of corneal and conjunctival diseases and dry eye, Corneal Transplantation, Pterygium excision. 

  • Cataract: Phacoemulsification, Intraocular Lens (IOL) Implantation, complex cataract surgery as well as surgery for lens dislocation. 

  • Glaucoma: Early detection of glaucoma, Glaucoma follow-up and management including medications, laser therapy, and surgery, such as Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS) and trabeculectomy.

  • Retinal Diseases: Diagnosis and management of infectious uveitis, Pars Plana Vitrectomy (PPV) and Intravitreal Injection for the management of complex vitreoretinal diseases such as diabetic retinopathy (DR), maculopathy, retinal detachment (RD), vitreous hemorrhage.

  • Strabismus and Amblyopia: Diagnosis of strabismus and amblyopia, and orthoptic training, Strabismus Correction Surgery.

  • Ocular Trauma: Emergency management of mechanical and chemical ocular trauma, Visual rehabilitation following ocular trauma. 

  • Eyelid and Lacrimal Passage Disorders: Eyelid Plastic Surgery, Excision of eyelid lesion, Surgical management of lacrimal disorders. 

  • Refractive Error: Assessment and correction of visual function, Myopia prevention and control in children, Refractive error correction in adults.

  3.Special Features & Advantages

  Relying on the National Clinical Research Center for Infectious Diseases, the Comprehensive Diagnosis and Treatment of Infectious Eye Diseases is one of the specialized disciplines in Shenzhen. Our department is equipped with internationally advanced ophthalmic equipment and possesses extensive clinical experience, with the capability of the precise diagnosis and systematic management of ocular conditions associated with HIV/AIDS, syphilis, bacteria and fungi, and others. We routinely perform complex surgical procedures, including complex vitrectomy.

  Corneal transplantation is one of the key development priorities in organ transplantation at the Third People's Hospital of Shenzhen. In collaboration with the Shenzhen Eye Bank, our department is equipped with both donor corneas and artificial corneas, offering visually impaired patients the opportunity to regain their sight. Corneal transplantation techniques include Penetrating Keratoplasty (PKP), Lamellar Keratoplasty (LKP), Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty (DALK), Endothelial Keratoplasty (EK), limbal stem cell transplantation, and bioengineered corneal keratoplasty.

  4.Education & Research

  Our department is responsible for undergraduate education in ophthalmology and also serves as a Shenzhen Standardized Residency Training Base for Ophthalmology. It is also an institutional member of the Tear Film & Ocular Surface Society (TFOS) China Chapter.

  In the past five years, the investigator has led 3 major research initiatives, including projects funded at the provincial level. These efforts have resulted in the publication of 10 peer-reviewed papers, seven of which are indexed in the Science Citation Index (SCI). In recognition of contributions to the field, he/she has received 1 Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award and holds 2 national invention patents.
