  1.Core Information

  The Department of Neurology at The Third People's Hospital of Shenzhen is a core department of the National Advanced Stroke Center, a network branch of the National Clinical Research Center for Neurological Diseases, a key unit of the Shenzhen Clinical Research Center for Neurological Diseases, and a designated center for acute cerebrovascular disease treatment in Shenzhen. It also serves as a teaching department for the National Standardized Residency Training Program.

  The department has a total of 36 members, consisting of 2 consultants, 1 associate consultant, 11 attending physicians, and 22 clinical nurses. The team comprises 4 doctors with Ph.D. degrees and 10 doctors with master’s degrees.

  2.Clinical Services

  Acute Ischemic Stroke: Intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) is performed via a rapid green channel and emergency imaging system to restore cerebral perfusion and neurological function.

  Cerebrovascular Interventional Therapy: Digital subtraction angiography (DSA), mechanical thrombectomy, and stenting are performed to diagnose and treat vascular stenosis or occlusion.

  Canalith Repositioning Procedure for Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV): Various maneuvers including Epley maneuver and Barbecue maneuver are highly effective for treating BPPV.

  Neurophysiological procedures: Electroencephalography (EEG), electromyography (EMG), and evoked potential studies are conducted to evaluate epilepsy, peripheral neuropathy, and neuromuscular disorders.

  Auricular Acupuncture Therapy: It is applied for sudden hearing loss and tinnitus to improve inner ear microcirculation.

  National Advanced Stroke Center Core Department 

  As a core unit of the National Advanced Stroke Center, the department operates a 24/7 multimodal imaging system and a rapid stroke green channel. It has ranked among the top three in intravenous thrombolysis performance in Shenzhen for three consecutive years (2021–2023). The neurological recovery rate has significantly improved.

  Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Approach 

  Multi-disciplinary team approach is adopted for the management of complex cerebrovascular diseases and rare conditions, in collaboration with the Emergency Department, Neurosurgery Department, Radiology Department, and Vascular Surgery Department, to deliver personalized and precise treatment plans.

  Comprehensive Canalith Repositioning Techniques

  The department has mastered a full range of internationally recognized repositioning maneuvers for all types of BPPV, ensuring high success rates and patient satisfaction.

  4.Education & Research  

  The department is accredited for national residency training and provides clinical education for multiple medical schools. It regularly organizes continuing medical education programs and participates in international academic exchanges.

  Over the past five years, the department has undertaken or participated in multiple national and provincial research projects, published over 20 SCI-indexed papers, and been granted 5 patents. It has received 2 scientific awards at the provincial-level or above. The research focuses on areas such as cerebrovascular diseases, neuroelectrophysiology, and neurological rehabilitation, with significant potential for clinical application.
