Founded in the 1980s, the department is a comprehensive ultrasound medical discipline integrating medical treatment, teaching and scientific research. With strong professional strength, advanced medical equipment and a sound service system, it enjoys a high academic status and industrial influence in the province and South China. The department has 42 medical staff, including 10 senior professionals, 2 PhD holders and 14 master’s degree holders, with a rational talent echelon and outstanding professional competence.
2.Clinical Services
Provides standardized multi-system ultrasound diagnosis, covering subspecialties including abdomen, superficial organs, obstetrics and gynecology, musculoskeletal, craniocerebral, cardiac, vascular, pediatric and organ transplantation, with an annual volume of over 300,000 examinations.
Performs Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound (CEUS) for the accurate differential diagnosis of lesions in liver, gallbladder, pancreas, kidney, thyroid, breast and other organs.
Provides ultrasound-guided minimally invasive interventional procedures, including puncture biopsy, catheter drainage, sclerotherapy for cysts/abscesses, local drug injection, minimally invasive hemostasis and tumor ablation.
Routinely performs musculoskeletal ultrasound to dynamically and high-resolution evaluate lesions of muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints and peripheral nerves, providing reliable diagnosis for sports injuries, rheumatic immune diseases and nerve entrapment.
Pioneers cervico-cerebral integrated ultrasound to achieve one-stop evaluation of carotid and intracranial vessels, early screening of arterial stenosis, plaques and hemodynamic abnormalities, providing accurate warning for stroke prevention and treatment.
Regularly performs transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), which overcomes the limitations of traditional imaging, clearly displays the fine structures of the heart and valves, and provides accurate imaging evidence for clinical diagnosis and treatment.
Specializes in transplantation ultrasound, establishing a comprehensive system of preoperative evaluation, intraoperative monitoring and postoperative follow-up to support liver, kidney and other organ transplantations and effectively improve transplant success rate and long-term prognosis.
Conducts prenatal ultrasound diagnosis and fetal structural screening. Through high-resolution imaging and three-dimensional volume reconstruction, it systematically and accurately assesses fetal growth, development and anatomical structure, effectively screens fetal structural malformations, and provides scientific and reliable imaging evidence for prenatal diagnosis and prenatal and postnatal care.
Carries out ultrasound elastography for tissue stiffness evaluation and early lesion screening.
3.Special Features & Advantages
The department is equipped with internationally advanced hardware facilities and has built a networked intelligent ultrasound workstation, realizing graphic reports and automated storage and inquiry. The department has formed a number of regionally leading advanced technologies in the field of accurate ultrasound diagnosis.
Ultrasound-guided minimally invasive intervention is the core featured technology of the department. With mature technology and a sound system, it is characterized by accurate visualization guidance, thousands of minimally invasive procedures completed annually, real-time positioning, precise operation, minimal trauma, high safety, clear diagnosis and exact curative effect, providing key technical support for the early diagnosis and minimally invasive treatment of difficult diseases.
Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound (CEUS): As one of the first departments in China to carry out CEUS, this technology has become a core advantageous diagnostic method. Dynamic perfusion imaging significantly improves the detection and qualitative diagnosis of small and atypical lesions, providing high-quality imaging evidence for clinical decision-making.
Transplantation ultrasound is a key specialty and superior brand of the department. The team consists of 17 members, performing thousands of transplantation ultrasound examinations annually. It provides professional, individualized and continuous monitoring for transplant patients, identifies vascular complications and rejection at an early stage, and provides a solid and reliable guarantee for successful organ transplantation and long-term prognosis.
4.Education & Research
The department undertakes clinical teaching and training for undergraduates and postgraduates from Guangdong Medical University and other medical universities and colleges in and outside the province. It has 2 master supervisors, has established a systematic ultrasound teaching and standardized training system, and has hosted many high-level continuing education courses to build a regional academic exchange platform for ultrasound medicine.
The department has been awarded 4 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 3 provincial research projects and 5 municipal projects, with a total research funding of 3.55 million yuan. More than 100 academic papers have been published, including 25 indexed by SCI and over 70 in Chinese core journals. It has edited or participated in compiling 10 monographs, authorized 10 patents, and won 1 third-class prize of provincial science and technology progress and 1 second-class prize of municipal science and technology progress. A number of research achievements such as ultrasound elastography have been successfully translated into clinical practice and applied on a large scale.
