3.Special Features & Advantages
The Department of Infectious Critical Care Medicine at the Third People's Hospital of Shenzhen serves as the core fortress in South China for responding to major public health emergencies and diagnosing and treating complex critical infectious diseases. The discipline focuses on two key pillars: "Emerging Infectious Diseases in Critical Care" and "Critical Immunodeficiency-Related Infections," establishing distinctive characteristics and leading advantages.
In the response to severe emerging infectious diseases, the discipline has accumulated extensive practical experience and robust technical reserves. As a designated regional treatment unit, the department has established a comprehensive system for critical care management of highly contagious and pathogenic diseases. This system encompasses rapid and precise diagnosis, efficient infection control, multi-organ functional support, and integrated treatment, serving as a key force in safeguarding urban public health security.
In the field of severe immunodeficiency-associated infections, the department has established a comprehensive and highly specialized subspecialty with profound diagnostic and therapeutic expertise. It has not only achieved nationally advanced levels in the treatment of severe AIDS and its complex opportunistic infections (such as PCP, CMV, and cryptococcosis), but also expanded its diagnostic and therapeutic scope to encompass a large population of non-HIV immunocompromised individuals. The department focuses on addressing severe infections in patients with diabetes, solid/hematologic malignancies, and post-solid organ transplantation, providing internationally aligned personalized anti-infective and immunomodulatory strategies.
Furthermore, the department is a renowned center in the region for the diagnosis and treatment of severe, complex, and special infections. Particularly for tertiary syphilis, especially neurosyphilis involving the central nervous system, it has established mature diagnostic protocols and standardized treatment experience for syphilis eradication. Annually, over 200 severe cases are effectively treated, preventing serious sequelae.
In summary, this discipline adopts the concept of "peacetime-war integration," enabling efficient response to emerging infectious disease outbreaks during wartime while focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of various immunodeficiency disorders and complex severe infections during peacetime. It has developed disciplinary advantages characterized by "rapid response, comprehensive technology, and distinct features," dedicated to providing the highest quality medical care for critically ill infectious disease patients.
