  1.Core information

The Clinical Nutrition Department is a 'Demonstration Center for the Construction of Clinical Nutrition Departments by the Hospital Management Research Institute of the National Health Commission', a 'National Demonstration Centre for Tuberculosis Nutrition Management', a 'Medical Weight Management Training and Research Center', and a 'Pioneering Pilot Unit for the Integration of Physical Fitness and Health in Shenzhen'. It is also a 'Clinical Trial Institution for Special Medical Foods for Special Purposes'.The team consists of seven members, including three physicians, two technicians and one person with a senior professional title.

  2.Clinical Services

  • Overweight/obesity

A comprehensive weight management plan is established for individuals with overweight or obesity. This plan covers diet adjustment, exercise guidance, behavioural intervention and medication, and is based on diet, exercise and lifestyle assessments, examinations and tests. The aim is to achieve scientific weight loss.

  • Medical Nutrition Management of Metabolic and Chronic Diseases

Individualised nutritional plans are formulated for patients with diabetes, hyperlipidaemia, gout, chronic kidney disease, liver disease and other conditions. Comprehensive control of metabolic indicators such as blood sugar, blood lipids and blood uric acid is achieved through dietary structure adjustment and nutritional education.

  • Nutritional Support Therapy for Malnourished and Critically Ill Patients

Nutritional risk screening and assessment is conducted for patients with difficulty eating or high metabolic states due to trauma, major surgery, severe infection, etc. A sequential treatment plan involving enteral nutrition (tube feeding and oral nutritional supplements) and parenteral nutrition (intravenous nutrition) is implemented to improve nutritional status and promote recovery.

  3.Special Features & Advantages

  • Body composition analysis and other nutrition-related assessments

The department is equipped with professional body composition analysers that can accurately measure various indicators, such as body fat, muscle mass, water content, protein levels and mineral content, providing a comprehensive assessment of patients' nutritional status and body composition. Unlike simple weight measurement, this technology can clearly identify 'hidden obesity', muscle atrophy, and oedema related to liver or kidney disease, providing objective data to support individualised nutritional intervention. Approximately 2,500 body composition analyses are completed annually.

  • Comprehensive medical weight loss service

The department has established an integrated medical weight management service system focusing on patients with overweight/obesity and metabolic diseases, especially metabolic-related fatty liver disease, based on an 'assessment-intervention-follow-up' model. The department provides patients with scientific, safe and sustainable weight management plans. The department has held the title of 'Medical Weight Management Training and Research Centre' for eight consecutive years. It serves approximately 2,000 people annually.
