1.Core Information

　　The Department of Blood Transfusion was established on May 4, 2016. Currently led by Director Yang Yan as the academic leader, the department comprises 7 blood transfusion technicians and physicians, including 1 senior professional, 5 intermediate professionals, and 1 junior professional. Among them, there are 2 transfusion physicians and 4 staff members with master's degrees. The primary functions of the department include clinical blood typing, transfusion-related testing, clinical blood usage planning, blood storage, cross-matching, blood issuance, and providing guidance for safe and rational clinical blood transfusion.

　　2.Clinical Services

　　The department currently offers a range of testing services, including ABO (forward and reverse) blood typing, Rh blood typing, cross-matching tests, irregular antibody screening, direct antiglobulin tests, neonatal hemolytic disease testing (direct antiglobulin test, elution test, free test), prenatal hemolytic antibody testing, pre-transplant blood group antibody titer determination, and thromboelastography. Therapeutic services include platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy. Additionally, the department participates in consultations and discussions on clinical transfusion cases, providing guidance for safe and rational clinical blood use.

　　3.Special Features & Advantages

• Full-Process Transfusion Management

　　The department places a strong emphasis on safe transfusion and information-based management. From clinical transfusion requests, specimen collection, and testing to cross-matching, blood issuance, and full-process monitoring of transfusions and documentation, the department has achieved comprehensive information-based management. It has successfully passed the National Level 6 Electronic Medical Record review. In recent years, the hospital's component blood transfusion rate has reached 100%, meeting advanced domestic standards. The department has consistently achieved perfect scores in the External Quality Assessment (EQA)  organized by the Guangdong Provincial and National Health Commission Clinical Inspection Centers for multiple consecutive years.

• PRP

　　In August 2025, the department officially launched PRP preparation. PRP is rich in various bioactive substances such as growth factors, cytokines, and antimicrobial peptides, which play a role in promoting cell proliferation, differentiation, matrix synthesis, tissue regeneration, and repair.PRP has currently been applied in the Thoracic Surgery, Endocrinology, Spine Surgery, Critical Care Medicine, and Rheumatology and Immunology departments. Treatments will also be gradually introduced in other departments such as Physiotherapy and Dermatology in the future.

　　4.Education & Research

　　The department is responsible for the teaching and training of residents in the standardized residency training program for blood transfusion laboratory specialties. It also provides internship teaching for medical laboratory students from universities such as Southern Medical University, Chongqing Medical University, Foshan University, and Gannan Medical University.

　　In recent years, the department has been conducting one municipal-level research project, has published three monographs, and has contributed over 10 academic papers.
